Art Buffet

YO. Here is a bunch of stuff that's been going on in my head lately. I got some dope books from my brother for Christmas so I have been doing plenty of Michael Hampton studies and even drawing up some superheroes for fun.

In other news, I have to create the poster for the next Sketchbook Battle since I was the winner last quarter and I was playing around with some ideas in photoshop...A lot of them weren't working. I ended up with a decent success and I sent it to Kevin but I haven't gotten a response yet. I feel like it was my first time designing a POSTER (not a FLYER) that is going to be printed nice and it really has to get the message across since people can be easily confused by the rules...

If you can't tell, the actual DESIGN and typography layout IS loosely based off of Brandon Lin's because I thought about eye-catching colors and simple design and when I looked at his poster, he had already solved many design issues I was going to face.

I thought, what is the loudest color, like yellow, or red...and he already mixed em up! I had my piece and was like...hmm there's still some space on the top and bottom...well if the title has it's own label it solves that too. So holy shit. WELL he did win like 2 or 3 times so that's plenty of posters to design, I'm sure it only gets easier. Anyways...let me know what you think if you will. Peace.

Christmas/Birthday Paintings

Yo. I did a tiny little bunny painting for Monica for Christmas and I did a pretty large piece of Todd Rundgren for my dad's birthday. Now that the gifts have been received, the images can be uploaded...yipppeeeeee.

30 Dead Djs Color Test

I tried to color the comics real quick. Messing around with some of the techniques that Jerry was discussing the last week of the comic class. His method involves using Photoshop's paint bucket and checking the All Layers box then coloring above your inked scan and setting the layer to multiply. The trick is getting the threshold on your ink scan set to the perfect amount so coloring the spaces is as easy as it can be. Obviously, if I keep editing and experimenting with different things I think this could end up a lot cooler. Right now, the colors remind of the the old Batman or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics.

30 Dead Djs - Dj One Comic

So here it is. A whole bunch of thumbnails and then some fancy scans that I did with a little bit of photoshop. I know there are still some mistakes but it's finally indian inked and has some graphic white on it...But there is one thing I totally need to fix right away haha!

Victory!

So I passed Portfolio Prep. and I won the sketchbook battle for the Fall 2010 Quarter. So now I have to make the poster for the Winter 2011 Quarter. I uploaded images of things that the teacher was into and lots of other random pages that I haven't uploaded yet or just forgot if I already did. Now I need to get another sketchbook. I also passed all of my classes! I almost got straight A's, but I ended up with a B+ in my comic class since it wasn't completely finished on time. Damn! Lots of work ahead so I can pass Portfolio Presentation and graduate like my homies! I need to keep up the momentum on my reel, just taking a few days off but I'm still marinating ideas in my brain juices. Haha gross!
