Recollect

I tried to paint Buckethead in gouache on the page with Reggie and Daft Punk but it didn't turn out quite how I wanted. I think I might want to do another layer over it but I may not get the chance realistically...

I did an ink and marker piece of the singer/guitarist of Gogol Bordello...gypsy...then Borat is hiding on the bottom of the next page.

I did some Michael Hampton studies and a few sketches and I have been coloring those for fun.

During Week 2, I went down to the Lifedrawing Workshop but I felt totally sick so I only had the time/strength to fill one page.

The next day I tried to draw some more during a class, but my head was still bothering me so it felt unusual.

I watched a cool video at theartcenter.blogspot and it inspired me to do some made up ink/marker stuff. I attempted a master copy of Sargent's Rosina in oils. That was weird...I learned a lot though.

Then there are some Bridgman studies, Vilppu studies, lots of sketches and a little marker mess based off of the Mars Volta poster/album cover.>

Life Drawing Workshop - Jan. 12, 2011

Damn, it has been a while since I have posted. I started the Winter 2011 quarter and I have Portfolio Presentation to contend with, that's pretty much it. But I've been at school like every day this week working on my marketing and my website so I can use the remaining time I have to focus on my demo reel. Amidst all this madness and new tasks, I made it down to the Life Drawing workshop and had a lot of fun just relaxing and trying out new techniques. I decided to use newsprint and charcoal since it has been a while and I don't want to lose the arm movements and rendering methods that I learned from that process. I totally want to do some more ink and marker/colored pencil drawings again though, that shit was ridiculously fun. I feel like I've gotten much better, but I need to create stuff that represents this new level...and that is a whole other goal.
Oh yeah! I also entered the sketchbook battle again so I can defend my throne during what I really hope is going to be my last quarter at AILV. I started page one with Reggie Watts and Daft Punk. Some good musicians. Word.

Sketchbook Battle Poster

Here is the final version of the sketchbook poster for the Winter 2011 quarter. Kevin had some critiques for the first version so I made a few changes, mostly to try and beef up the winning sketchbook's appearance. Word.
