Last Friday June 25th 2010

Here are a couple pictures from the first Last Friday which is going down the Last Friday of every month outside of Living Dead Tattoo. Someone spelled my name wrong so I had to get a shot of that.I had never done any type of art showing before so I was stoked when I sold two paintings by the end of the night. I could not have done it without my older brother Rudy. He helped me with my setup a lot! I almost lost shit in the strong gusts of wind but then we made it work. You can see that shot of me and my dad in the sun. I had my guitar and I was playing some songs and gypsying around. Word.

My homies Jon and Ryan also took part in the event. I got a couple snapshots of their setups. Then there was some art by my brother's friends, Darin and Heather. Awesome stencil stuff. The whole thing was a lot of fun and it seems like the next one should be even better because we have more time to promote and prepare. Some artists flaked but there was still about 13 or 14 who showed up proper.

"MAKE IT WORK!"

Lots of action so far this break! Finished up some old drawings that I did during the Spring Quarter with markers. Lately I have been experimenting with these cheap water colors. I am making an effort to try and do more layering and blending with my markers and paints while also spending more time focusing on tones and thinking of which colors to combine. So I did two pages of faces while I was kind of buzzed then I water colored them the next day. It was fun and obviously there are some strange mistakes but whatever. I finished it up while I was out at Sunset Park with a few other members of the Hot Sauce Gang. Rick, Jon, Brandon, Mina and her daughter all made it out for a bit of drawing. Things are definitely changing in life and in my artistic style once again. I think that is a good thing.

Puppy Cat

Yo. Had some free time. Decided to try to do another quadruped cycle. I only worked on it for like an hour so I feel pretty good about it so far. I didn't really do any minute tweaking and there are a few controls on his feet that will help him look like he's launching off the ground so I need to add those values sometime.

And I posted my stick fights onto Newgrounds.

Workin' At The Car Wash

Yeah boi! I made it down to the second half of the last Life Drawing Workshop for the Spring 2010 Quarter. I got a few decent drawings considering that I haven't done it in 3 months and I used to do it almost twice a week for 3 months...I need to get back into it because I got some fresh conte and it feels good. But now I am on the 3 weeks off for summer so I need to work on my demo reel, do some paintings, tighten up animations, render some stuff, come up with new ideas, get my name out, make music, practice in the "bands" I am currently in and maybe try to find a job or make some money somehow! Hustlin'! Oh yeah, that one on the top is some band that my brother Rudy and I zombified. I think they are called the Jim Jones Revue (?). There was a picture of them in the Las Vegas Weekly and Rudy decided to zombify the dudes on the right then he laughed his off and told me I should do the other two. My zombie were very Walking Dead inspired. I added some flies and the hand print. Cool stuff.

Hip Hop!

The final for Rocky's Character Animation...I picked a tough one. Old school break dancing has some wild traits to it. Dancers want to do unrealistic things. They try to make it look like they are floating and sliding you know...the moonwalk and all that. But when it comes to animation it helps to exaggerate things and plus real life goes by QUICK! I got some good critiques from the few other students in the class and from Rocky and I know I can make this look a lot better if I amplify the weight how I did in the beginning throughout the piece. Consistency! 'Floaty' is the word I want to avoid.

THE FOOKIN' FURY!

Waiting for the bus! This piece is sort of boring man! Randolf filmed us acting out waiting for a bus...I showed my brother Rudy and he said it looks like an impatient wait. More like waiting for a cab you called or something. It was all about the subtle, moving holds.

Here is my final for Randolf's Intermediate 3D Animation class. I love this piece but something weird happened where I accidentally deleted the faces on his right arm and right eye! So wtf! How do I fix that? I need to transfer the animation to a clean rig and I was looking up how to do that and people have made scripts for it but I was going to try and use the Trax Editor...but I couldn't figure it out!

Here is a walk cycle I was working on in Rocky's Character Animation. I messed up the first one so I started over. I still see some weird stuff with that I could do much better. But again...it appears it would be easier to start fresh.

Here is my midterm from Character Animation. I took a scene from the intro of Aladdin. The little dude gets off the camel and starts talking about the story after he sings Arabian Nights. That is what these movements are based off of. I think it turned out okay but it would be cooler if I added the audio and went back to do the lip-syncing.

One of my favorites. This was super fun. Everyone had to do a different kung fu move for the Character Animation midterm. I told Rudy what I had to do and he decided to help me out by letting me film him doing some combative maneuvers. He did a pretty high kick towards the end that seriously was like the highest kick I have ever seen him do so I decided to animate that one.

UNLEASH THE FURY!

This is the first assignment that I did for Randolf's Intermediate 3D Animation. For some reason I didn't post this stuff...some of it I still need to compress before it will fit but hopefully I can get all my good 3d up here for people to check out.

This was the second one from Int. 3D. The walk cycle. I didn't really "finish" this one because I never added animations to the ENTIRE body but I know that I should probably just start a new one and it would go by smoother and faster. I have learned a lot about 3d animation in the last 11 weeks...

Here is the run cycle I tried to do but didn't really finish this one either! Dammit! The Caged Tiger...

The Quadruped! Here is one of my favorites because I got pretty damn close to being satisfied with it. (For my current amount of knowledge anyway...) I know I could do some more work on the tail and stuff but I think it's not far off!

POSING! POSING IN THE DISTANCE! POSING FOR A PORTRAIT! POSING A THREAT! This one was fun. I went and got five different reference pics then I put Norman, one of my favorite rigs so far obviously, into the poses and added some moving holds. Word! This was the pre-cursor to our "Waiting At The Bus" piece.

EXPERIMENTATION

Here are a few sketchbook pages I have finished in the last couple of days. I know I should be working on finals but hey this happens every quarter! I guess it's how I just chill out and feel good about SOMETHING during these stressful times...

FAIL!

Wow! What a load of shit! This was my 4th quarter reel and I remember I didn't have any cool MACROMEDIA Flash stuff I did before I went to the Art Institute or any knowledge about dope programs like After Effects, Maya, Final Cut Pro and lots of other cool ones I've learned about over the past couple years...This is totally what not to do and it is way boring and stale. I used Imageready(!) to insert class projects that other students did as well, bad typography, jump-cuts as transitions...it breaks nearly all of the rules! But the icing on the cake is that I left two text boxes with a misspelled "fundamentls". Hilarious!

DEMO REELS!!

Wow man that other one had a little bit of decent stuff in it...but the ending sucked balls! This is the most recent version I created after that sometime in April 2010. I changed the music and swapped a couple things, shortened it a bit...you know! But I like the energy of the other song and I STILL think it needs to be more specialized. I can still remember my 4th quarter reel though...HA! I have come a long way. I will post it later for another laugh...Sadly I can't get rid of the feeling that my repertoire of work remains unorganized. So much to do! Portfolio Prep is on the rise and I have been at this school too long to want to take it twice.

DEMO REELS?!

Everybody has been working on their demo reels and it has a been a while since I have even looked at mine so I decided to post it somewhere so people could check it out. This is the one I remember showing Ken and Dennis for the 8th Quarter review. It has changed a bit since then but I think this one is alright so far...Needs to be more specialized and I have a lot of new stuff to add.

Oldie But Goodie

Yo these are old but I never posted them and I still think they are cool. There was one I made for Sharee but I didn't have a camera when I made it so I don't have a picture of that one...Then there is that Mouseguard piece. Sloppy...but fun...and I recall doing FAR FAR WORSE with chalk pastels when I was in high school. I need to try out some different kinds because I remember Kevin said the Rembrandt pastels are expensive but they work more like a piece of charcoal.

Yes We CAN

Rudy did most of the frog. I did the other little messes. The Frog and Spiderman are from yesterday but the door and afrobird are a few months older.

Did this in May 2010. Pow!

Bla-Dow!

A long time friend asked me to take one of my sketchbook pages and paint it larger and onto canvas. It was weird because the original is 5x7 and the canvas is like 16x20 so a lot of spaces that were quick and easy to cover with a large brush because areas that I needed to layer with the light yellow. Simple brush stroked mixes of green became these huge areas and bigger paint piles. I've done this kind of stuff before and it makes me think of making music demos...trying to redo a song so it will "sound better". But sometimes the demo just has something special to it and it could be impossible to recreate the same essence.

Fancy Dance Instrumental

I have always wondered if I should post guitar videos or music stuff on here...so whatever. I sort of feel like I'm breaking rules, but I also feel like I have broken down the barriers and have begun to realize how to integrate my life into itself.
